Breakfast - best meal of the day!

Dining Room

We take breakfast seriously at North Hill Farm, believing it sets you up for the day and contributes to the general health and wellbeing of humankind.

Our Aga-cooked breakfasts come on hot plates and are served in the dining room.

Originally the farm's cowshed, its ridged ceiling and original beamed trusses create a light, airy room with a great atmosphere. It's especially charming over the Christmas period when we dress the beams with holly branches.

Guests share the large oak table which turns breakfast into an occasion and adds to the enjoyment of their stay. A buzz of chat and laughter reaches us in the kitchen and we often wonder what we're missing.

  • When the season is right we frequently offer wild mushrooms for those who appreciate them. Field and horse mushrooms, parasols and puff balls, delicious cooked in butter.
  • Fresh fruit is always available to complement cereals and freshly-made porridge comes with a swirl of cream and maple syrup, or just plain if you prefer it. Yoghurt with honey is another option.
  • Our own free ranging hens provide a ready supply of fresh eggs, which can be cooked to taste, from fried or poached to a couple of eggs boiled just right.
  • We have our own way of serving creamy, golden scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.
  • Bacon and sausages are from local butchers, from pigs reared in the area.
  • The menu includes numerous options for vegetarians and several fish dishes, including proper kippers.
  • Jams and marmalade are home made with local fruit, much of it from the farm.
We don't usually serve evening meals but will always try to help. Guests arriving on foot, horseback or cycles can avoid another trek with a simple supper booked in advance.

The area is well-served with good pubs offering varied menus, within a short distance.
